Congratulations new President Dr William Ruto

Jimmy Wanjala info@airspacenews.co.ke Congratulations to President Dr William Samoei Ruto. During the presidential campaigns, only the key principal of Kenya Kwanza and now President Dr William Ruto agreed to meet with pilots from Kenya’s general aviation to discuss some of the issues that affect the aviation sector. This included: 1. Heavy taxation in the sector by the government. a. Small operators are taxed with VAT (value-added tax) on aircraft imports to the country yet a Dreamliner pays no taxes on importation. 2. KRA- East African Airlines just stopped operations due to what they termed harassment by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA). 3. Pilot employment Pilot employment issues need to be addressed and the bridge between insurance companies, pilot hours, and fresh pilot’s differences addressed. Hard Questions aviators are asking: 1. Does Kenya Airways have the capacity or if not can Kenya Airways can develop the capacity to employ as many pilots as other national carriers like Ethiopian Airlines? 2. Why are foreign airlines allowed to fly from Nairobi's Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) to Mombasa, yet our Kenyan national airlines are not allowed to fly local routes in any other country? 3. Why are banks and the government rushing to bail out the national carrier, ALL THE TIME? 4. Why can’t the same banks and the government bail out the local operators? And that’s the Editor's Note
